King of Hearts / Suicide King Piece

• Designed in Rhino & Illustrator, by looking to an original playing card and customizing one side to relate to the story of the Suicide King

• The original design was tweaked to have softer curves, reducing some of the sharp geometry that is inherent in the design of playing cards

  • This was done for aesthetics as well as to reduce masking issues

• Once the design was finished, it was prepped for laser cutting, and then painted

  • This was a commission after my original King of Hearts Puzzle was completed, so the colors were chosen by the client and it was not made as a puzzle

  • The design was etched onto the back of a sheet of clear acrylic, to only cut through the masking paper covering the surface

    • This allowed me to remove pieces of masking and paint each color individually, as well as keeping the piece together instead of as separate puzzle pieces
