GD&T Hammer

The assignment was to pick a tool, then model, create drawings, and build it, all with the appropriate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances.

  • I chose to create a ball peen hammer - more specifically a machinists hammer - out of brass and hardwood

  • I started in SolidWorks by modeling the hammer in its separate pieces, making sure to take care to think of the manufacturing and machining process

  • Each part was associated its own drawing, and appropriate GD&T was assigned according to how it was going to be assembled/which fits were required

  • Everything was combined in an Assembly, so an assembly drawing could be created, including a bill of materials

  • The hammer was machined on a manual lathe and polished on a buffing wheel
