PeopleMover

  • This project was the introduction to using and learning a Haas Mini Mill, so the goal was to create a piece of “desk candy,” or an object purely for aesthetic purposes

    • I chose to recreate a TTA PeopleMover vehicle - in use at Magic Kingdom - and based my dimensions and design off of one original blueprint I was able to find, and many, many YouTube videos

  • The model was designed in SolidWorks, paying attention to the limitations of the machine and tools availabe

    • For example: I didn’t want to use any endmills with a diameter smaller than 1/8”, so I made sure none of my fillets were smaller than 1/16”

    • I also paid attention to make sure the design could be done by only flipping it one time

  • The gcode was created in Mastercam, and went through several iterations in order to balance the best finish possible with the time constraint

    • The stock was first squared up on a mill, and then the Mini Mill was used to carve out the complex design

  • The design included a registration corner/axis, so the edges would line up after the flip, as well as tapped holes for a mounting plate that kept the cutting tools away from vice

  • The final part was finished on a belt grinder, belt sander, media blaster, deburring wheel, and buffing wheel. The sharp interior corners caused challenges when sanding, but ultimately the goal finish was achieved and the part was sent out to be anodized
