Fruit (Model & Render)

The assignment was to pick a fruit, model it in SolidWorks, and then Render it in Keyshot. The goal? Make it as realistic as possible.

  • I chose to model an heirloom tomato, because it felt like it would be a fun challenge to model all of the segments, bumps and lumps, as well as the leaves and coloring providing a different challenge all together

  • I started in SolidWorks by making lofts for each segment of the tomato, using a Sketch Photo to create a guide curve that added volume to the pieces

  • The leaves (a total of 3) were each made by creating separate parts for each one, utilizing solid lofts

  • The stem was done by creating a sketch and sweeping that sketch along a curve, and adding a dome on top of it to get rid of any sharp geometry

  • Everything was assembled in an Assembly, utilizing configurations to make smaller versions of the leafs, so I could save time modeling

  • Moving into Keyshot, custom materials and textures were applied in order to obtain the correct finish

  • Finally, everything was touched up utilizing 3D Paint, so I could add some irregularities to both the body of the tomato and the leaves

Model Tree & Assembly in SolidWorks

Configurations allowed me to get multiple uses out of one model. This saved me time and added complexity to the model.
